Good idea. I made the first occurrence of "GNU/Linux" a link to the respective gnu.org page. Maybe I'll add a separate question later on.

I found a very useful summary of MediaWiki's image formatting capabilities here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax
Basically, thumbnails and resizing can be done by MediaWiki automatically.
