I didn't write the code.  It's Snirc (http://snirc.sourceforge.net/), a
project that apparently has been abandoned.  I don't know whether the
GUI displays properly when compiled and run in Sun Java, so I'm
reluctant to file a GCJ bug.  If someone wants to test it, the code I
use is at http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~mflaschen3/irc/Wikipedia_IRC.tar.gz .

I think it could make sense to use an existing channel.  Can you suggest
