I really like this idea, and we could definitely host this kind of FAQ. Perhaps
someone else on the list has a wiki they can open up for the purpose of getting
it written?

I'd be happy to chime in and help with some of the writing and editing as well.
In fact I have a draft document around that was written to help people get
started with free software when we were originally planning the BadVista site.
I can dig that up and contribute it to the effort.
